Assessing Future Traveller Information Systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
Future traveller information systems (FTIS) supported by pervasive computing are being considered as the next generation of traveller information systems. However, large scale deployments of pervasive computing environments do not yet exist. Building models or mockups of FTIS is expensive and time-consuming. This paper introduces current research at Newcastle University which is investigating the impacts of FTIS scenarios on modal shift away from the car to public transport. The adopted methodology is a combination of conventional research methods incorporating textual descriptions of the hypothetical FTIS scenario and an innovative approach involving rapid prototyping using immersive video and a simulated infrastructure to create a realistic environment to explore user experience of FTIS scenarios.

Vienna-spirit: Smart Travelling by Using Integrated and Intermodal Traveller Information
This paper introduces conceptual and implementation approaches for an integrated, intermodal traveller information system in the Vienna region. Studies forecast high potentials of travellers willing to use alternative means of transport if provided with intermodal traveller information and having travel time advantages. Furthermore it is expected, that intermodal traveller information can contr...
متن کاملLiterature Review of Traffic Assignment: Static and Dynamic
Rapid urban growth is resulting into increase in travel demand and private vehicle ownership in urban areas. In the present scenario the existing infrastructure has failed to match the demand that leads to traffic congestion, vehicular pollution and accidents. With traffic congestion augmentation on the road, delay of commuters has increased and reliability of road network has decreased. Four s...
متن کاملEffects of System Characteristics on Adopting Web-based Advanced Traveller Information System: Evidence from Taiwan
This study proposes a behavioural intention model that integrates information quality, response time, and system accessibility into the original technology acceptance model (TAM) to investigate whether system characteristics affect the adoption of Web-based advanced traveller information systems (ATIS). This study empirically tests the proposed model using data collected from an online survey o...
متن کاملCyberRail - Information Infrastructure for New Intermodal Transport Business Model
One of the achievements of CyberRail concept is that it has proposed the fabric of the transport, which is so simple and strong that we cannot miss the future direction of the revolution towards an intermodal transport system. The second one is the creation of a tailor-made travel assistant model, that is, itinerary-based, situation-sensitive traveller information services. Considering the fast...
متن کاملAn Approach to Evaluating the Usability of Public Transport Journey Planners
Public transport journey planners support a common decision need, and have become popular especially with the availability of real-time tracking data for trip planning and the travellers’ ubiquitous access to the web. This paper, however, takes a usability perspective. The need for assistance in journey planning will vary depending on factors such as the familiarity of the traveller with the ro...
